Verstappen, third: “We executed everything well”
Max Verstappen was over the moon after the race. Struggling this weekend, the reigning champion finishes third just ahead of Charles Leclerc and extends his lead in the championship.
This is what we call minimizing the damage. No one had thought before the race started that Max Verstappen would finish ahead of Charles Leclerc, given how large the gap between the two title contenders had been since the beginning of the weekend. However, it is indeed the Dutchman who steps onto the third step of the podium, a result that seems to satisfy him more than enough.
« I did the best I could after yesterday’s [qualifying]. As a team, we were very good on strategy, which allowed us to beat Ferrari. I think we can be happy with our Sunday, we executed everything well and I didn’t expect that last night. » congratulated the reigning world champion.
(English) We had never driven in the rain before, it’s so easy to make a mistake that you have to be very concentrated. Thankfully, nothing too serious happened except for Mick’s [Schumacher] accident, but I heard he was alright, so it’s a good day. I’m really happy for Checo [Perez], continues Max Verstappen.
Thanks to this podium, the Dutchman increases his lead over Charles Leclerc even further (9 points more), but sees his teammate Sergio Perez closing in at a distance of 15 points from him.
