Monaco Grand Prix – The editorial team’s top/flop

Top 3:

The opportunism of Red Bull and Perez

As often, Red Bull managed to seize its chance during the strategic confusion among the Reds. After delivering a strong qualifying performance, finishing ahead of their team leader Sergio Perez, they took the opportunity to win the most prestigious race of the season. The opportunism and serenity demonstrated by the Austrian team allow them to achieve strong performances and seize opportunities when their opponents fail to capitalize.

This weekend, Red Bull didn’t have the best car, but both the team and the Mexican driver were able to hold their own.

Gasly’s race start

The Normandy driver hoped for rain after a completely failed qualification, and he got it. Starting in 17th position, the AlphaTauri driver made a meteoric comeback that unfortunately ended just outside the points in 11th place. However, Esteban Ocon’s penalty still allows him to gain one position.

If Pierre Gasly doesn’t make progress on the accounting level, this race allows him to regain the necessary confidence to continue the battle for the rest of the season.

As a reminder, he hasn’t scored any points since the Australian round.

The suspense until the end of the Grand Prix.

Often criticized and currently in negotiations for the renewal of its contract, the Monaco leg offered us a unique spectacle that only it knows how to deliver.

The weather played a significant role in this race full of twists and turns, but the Grand Prix kept enthusiasts on the edge of their seats from start to finish with Sergio Perez’s victory. The four knights who battled at the front finished within 3 seconds of each other. After this exceptional edition, the only thing we can say is see you in 2023!

Flop 3:

Ferrari and strategy, a journey back in time.

The Ferrari Scuderia had the car this weekend to achieve a fairly easy one-two. Unfortunately, and this is becoming recurrent, strategy once again proved to be the Achilles’ heel of the Italian team. By calling Charles Leclerc into the pits at a (very) bad time, Ferrari took away any chance of a home victory for him.

This mistake is even more important as a victory would have allowed the Monégasque to get closer to his direct competitor for the championship, Max Verstappen. If Ferrari wants to have all its chances to compete for the drivers’ and constructors’ titles, they will have to bounce back very quickly.

The FIA on certain decisions

The FIA had a difficult Grand Prix this Sunday that started under heavy rain. This heavy rain caused a power outage in the starting system management. Additionally, following this incident, the race officials decided not to perform a standing start for the race in order to avoid any further malfunction.

This incident somewhat stains such an event that is followed worldwide.

Furthermore, the decisions made by the race management have been confusing for enthusiasts. The absence of penalties for Verstappen and Perez for their controversial pit lane exits has been criticized. The sanction imposed on Esteban Ocon for his collision with Hamilton has also been questioned due to a very vague rule.

“>who received a 5-second penalty following his contact with Lewis Hamilton.”

Haas is her new total failure.

New wacky race for the American team who have now gone three consecutive weekends without scoring a single point. In just a few laps, Haas lost Kevin Magnussen due to a mechanical issue, and then Mick Schumacher had a huge crash which split his car in half. Fortunately, the German driver came out unscathed from this massive collision. This latest accident is likely to once again have a significant impact on the budget of the American team and hinder, even if to a limited extent, the development of the VF-22.
