Carlos Sainz, second in Monaco: “I lost the race because of the backmarkers”

Last year, Carlos Sainz finished third and secured another podium in Monaco. However, the Spaniard regrets not being able to win a race that was within reach.

« We did everything we could, especially staying patient in the rain. We made a good decision by switching to slick tires. I lost the race because of a slower car that caused traffic. It’s frustrating because I could have won the race, but that’s how sports are sometimes. (F) explains the Ferrari driver.

Sainz was the first driver to want to switch to slick tires when the racing line started to dry. A decision he is proud of.

« I saw the track drying up, so we decided to switch to slick tires, which was a good decision since I was leading afterward. But the out lap is never easy on hard tires, and I was behind a backmarker, which cost me the win today. But I don’t want to complain too much, Checo [Perez] had no luck in Jeddah, so it’s like that, everything balances out sooner or later. » regrets the former McLaren driver.

Carlos Sainz is fifth in the championship with 83 points.
