Heavy fine for Carlos Sainz
The Ferrari driver received his third reprimand of the year for obstructing Lance Stroll during the Free Practice 3.
Sanctions and fines are piling up for Carlos Sainz. During the third free practice session, the Spaniard hindered Lance Stroll at turns 17 and 18. After being summoned, along with the Canadian, in front of the stewards, the Ferrari driver has been penalized.
The commissioners judged that he was not solely responsible and that his team had a share of responsibility in the incident.
The driver of car 55 received a series of incorrect radio messages regarding the gaps with the cars behind him, according to document 39 from the FIA, which refers to this incident. Due to the lack of visibility, the driver must solely rely on the information provided by his team.
The Spaniard then almost stopped on the track, a behavior that was deemed unacceptable by the stewards, who gave him his third reprimand of the year, the second for driving. He is therefore subject to a heavy fine of €25,000.
