Ricciardo admits that Zak Brown’s criticisms are justified
Targeted by McLaren's CEO after the Spanish Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo responded. He believes that the criticisms are justified given his current level.
After over a year at McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo still hasn’t convinced. The Australian has been struggling since his arrival, despite a few brilliant performances like his victory at Monza last year. The board of the Woking team is starting to grow a little impatient, after showing a lot of patience and trust in Ricciardo last year.
Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren, had been harsh towards the Australian after the Spanish Grand Prix. Apart from Monza and a few other races, it is not up to his expectations or ours. Ricciardo responded by admitting that the criticism was justified.
« It is not false, it is rather true, he admits. « I don’t take the comments personally. No one will be harsher with me than myself. I don’t want to race in 10th or 12th position. I have been pushed a bit more at certain moments trying to surpass myself and maximize my potential in this car. But we work hard together. The team wants it, I want it, and we are working towards it. »
While he is still under contract with McLaren until the end of next season, Daniel Ricciardo will quickly have to turn things around if he wants to continue his Formula 1 adventure. The Australian will want to finish as high as possible this weekend in Monaco, where he emerged victorious in 2018. In the championship, the former Renault driver is currently in eleventh place with 11 points, 28 points behind his teammate Lando Norris.
