Second podium of the season for George Russell
The Briton continues his strong start to the season with another podium. It's the sixth consecutive race in the top 5 for him.
If we had to summarize George Russell’s start to the season in one word, it would be consistency. The Mercedes driver has just achieved another top 5, his sixth in a row. He is the only driver on the grid to have accomplished this feat this season.
In Spain, the Briton had a very strong race, behind the wheel of a W13 that brought about upgrades and a new engine, allowing him to achieve his second podium of the year. However, for George Russell, this surge in performance does not indicate that Mercedes has returned to the highest level.
I would like to be able to say that, but today has been very difficult. I gave everything I had to keep Max back, he did a great job. I am very happy to be able to stand on the podium. We had to work very hard. I dedicate this result to everyone in Brackley and Brixworth, he said.
But, the race could have ended in a completely different way for the young driver as well as for his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who slowed down significantly towards the end of the race.
To be honest, it hurt us a lot. But when I had Red Bull in my rearview mirrors, I did my best to keep it behind me and there were a few laps that were very good, very enjoyable. I’m happy to bring back a third place finish and a lot of points. It was very challenging in the final laps. It was a survival race once we knew we had a lead.
With this third place, George Russell is in fourth position in the driver’s standings, with 74 points compared to Sergio Perez’s 85 points, who is ahead of him.
