Jack Doohan is going to perform tests with Alpine in Qatar
Jack Doohan will driver a Formula 1 car for the first time. The vice-champion of Formula 3 in 2021 will carry out tests this weekend at Losail with last year's Alpine A521.
Jack Doohan will drive a Formula 1 car for the first time this weekend. The young Australian, who finished second in Formula 3 last year and is a member of the Alpine Academy, will perform tests at the wheel of the A521 from the French team, the victorious single-seater last season in Hungary.
At the Losail circuit, he will join his compatriot Oscar Piastri, the reigning Formula 2 champion and Alpine reserve driver. The latter has already been on track on Wednesday and Thursday on the circuit that hosted the Qatar Grand Prix last year.

Jack Doohan, the son of Mick Doohan, former motorcycle rider, expressed his excitement about this opportunity. “I am very excited about the prospect of driving a Formula 1 car for the first time. It is a moment I have been waiting for ever since I started racing karts, and I know that these opportunities are extremely privileged,” says Doohan in a statement published by Alpine.
(I am very grateful to Alpine for this opportunity and I am looking forward to giving my best on the day of the tests. I have already observed the behind-the-scenes of some private tests and I have prepared a lot in the simulator at Enstone, so I feel really ready for this challenge,” the Australian continues.)
Currently engaged in Formula 2, Jack Doohan has had a difficult start to the season with only six points scored in three races. However, the Australian had nonetheless secured the pole position for his first race in the category in Bahrain.
