Charles Leclerc: An “entertaining” Grand Prix
Finishing second behind Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc was satisfied with his race, even though he admitted he had struggled a lot during the first stint. The Monégasque driver remains the championship leader, but his lead is once again narrowing.
Charles Leclerc couldn’t convert his pole position into a victory. The Monegasque driver fell victim to Max Verstappen’s dominance and settles for second place on the podium. Leclerc may regret a few mistakes in this Grand Prix, as well as a close finish where the Ferrari driver was not far from being able to overtake the reigning champion’s Red Bull.
“It was very challenging physically. We struggled with the medium tires in the first stint and it made our race difficult afterwards. On the hard tires, I really thought I could pass Max but he had more pace. But it was fun and also very nice to have so many Ferrari fans around the circuit,” reacted Charles Leclerc.
« We must continue to attack. The development will be very important this season, improvements will have to be made from the next Grand Prix. The season is going to be long and people want to see this battle [with Verstappen]. » continued the Monegasque.
With 104 points, Leclerc retains the lead in the championship but only with a 19-point advantage over Verstappen.
