Vettel is sporting a t-shirt against the rising waters in Miami
Very committed to environmental protection, Sebastian Vettel appeared in Miami wearing a t-shirt against climate change and more specifically rising sea levels that threaten Florida.
Sebastian Vettel is one of the most committed drivers on the grid. The four-time world champion doesn’t hesitate to defend causes that are dear to him, such as animal protection and environmental conservation. The German appeared in Miami wearing a t-shirt with the inscription “Miami 2060: First Underwater Grand Prix. Act now or swim later.”, accompanied by a humorous drawing of a racing helmet with a snorkel.

A reference to the rising sea levels threatening certain parts of the world, notably Florida. Due to climate change, the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets are melting and are projected to cause a rise in sea levels of over one meter by 2070, according to estimates from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Such an increase in water level could increase the number of storms and flood downtown Miami. The city had developed several projects to combat this phenomenon, including the construction of a nine-kilometer levee to protect the city from flooding. Unfortunately, none of these projects ultimately came to fruition due to the cost deemed too high by the residents.
Sebastian Vettel thus wishes to humorously warn Floridians and urge public authorities not to wait to take action.
