Franz Tost: AlphaTauri is a notch below its competitors
In this early season, AlphaTauri is struggling to reach its goals. The team principal of the team considers the AT03 to be very behind. Franz Tost believes that they are "two steps behind" their main competitors.
AlphaTauri’s goals for 2022 were clear: to be the best in the midfield. But in this early season, the Red Bull sister team is far from achieving that objective. Currently seventh in the constructor standings, AlphaTauri is behind Alpine, Alfa Romeo, and McLaren with only 16 points in four races.
The AlphaTauri team is struggling to climb back up and score points since the first Bahrain Grand Prix and Pierre Gasly’s retirement. At Imola, Gasly finished twelfth after putting up a strong resistance against Lewis Hamilton, while his teammate Yuki Tsunoda achieved AlphaTauri’s best result so far with a seventh-place finish.
The team principal of the team, Franz Tost, expressed his dismay at AlphaTauri’s delay compared to its mid-table competitors. “Currently, I would say we are two steps behind, not just one,” lamented Tost. “We have to catch up and avoid such mistakes [in qualifying], because the mid-table is so tight that you are immediately out.”
The next step for AlphaTauri is the Miami Grand Prix in two weeks. The team will have to double its efforts if it wants to score valuable points in this first Floridian Grand Prix.
