Built-in cameras in helmets will be mandatory in 2023
After numerous tests carried out since the 2021 season, F1 will make the presence of cameras in the helmets of all drivers mandatory starting from 2023.
The cameras embedded inside the helmets offer a total immersion for Formula 1 fans.
Since the appearance of these cameras, viewers have a unique perspective to experience the race from the inside. This point of view also allows seeing the drivers’ actions on the steering wheels during the different sessions.
As a reminder, the first person to have been able to try out this new technology was Fernando Alonso during the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix.

Furthermore, tests were also conducted in 2012 during the Monaco Grand Prix with Paul Di Resta. More recently, some drivers like Romain Grosjean or Pierre Gasly had tested glasses featuring an onboard camera, but only during selected practice sessions.
