Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix – Review of French-speaking drivers: Pierre Gasly

A small twelfth place

The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was very frustrating for Pierre Gasly, who was unable to finish in the points. The Frenchman, who had a poor qualifying session in Imola, started in 17th position on the grid. Furthermore, starting on intermediate tires on a wet track and the early safety car did not make things any easier.

However, it is mainly the lack of performance of the AlphaTauri that penalized Gasly. He was stuck behind Alexander Albon for a long time and couldn’t overtake his rival’s Williams. The top speed of the AT03 is to blame. Not efficient enough in the DRS zones, the car was not able to provide the necessary acceleration for Pierre Gasly. Therefore, the Frenchman crossed the finish line in twelfth position and did not score any points in this first Italian race.

In a battle with Hamilton

Stuck behind Albon, Pierre Gasly faced constant pressure from the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The Briton attempted numerous times to pass Gasly, without much success.

Whether it was in the DRS zones or even in the corners, Hamilton found himself stuck behind the AlphaTauri, itself unable to pass the Williams. During the second half of the race, Hamilton and Gasly set the pace for a battle in which the Frenchman came out victorious.

This Grand Prix weekend is one to forget for Pierre Gasly, who is already looking forward to discovering the brand new Miami track in two weeks.
