Alfa Romeo: Better to “fight with Alpine and AlphaTauri than with the medical car”

Alfa Romeo experienced two relatively challenging seasons in 2020 and 2021, where the Swiss team’s drivers were fighting more with Haas and Williams at the back of the pack. But in the first three Grand Prix of the 2022 season, the two new drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, scored points, giving Alfa Romeo a provisional sixth place in the constructor’s standings.

Apart from a forced retirement for Valtteri Bottas in Saudi Arabia, where the driver experienced some cooling issues, Alfa Romeo seems to be back in the midfield battle. The team principal of the racing team, Frédéric Vasseur, is enjoying this new form while remaining aware of the 20 upcoming races.

« It’s good to be back, it’s much better to fight against Alpine and AlphaTauri than with the medical car,” Vasseur joked in response to Autosport. « No, it’s a good feeling and in the end, the races are very exciting for us, but I think it’s the same for everyone. We don’t need to pay much attention to the standings. I repeat, there are still 20 races to go and the most important thing is to stay focused on the development and what we need to improve,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas seems to be enjoying his new role as a mentor alongside rookie Guanyu Zhou and is very satisfied with his team change.
