Max Verstappen: « Red Bull is progressing step by step
For the first sprint race of the season, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen hopes to make up for some valuable points.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend is the first to incorporate a sprint race this season. Naturally, there are more points at stake in Italy. And a few extra points wouldn’t hurt Red Bull, who are significantly behind in the title race after three retirements in just three races.
The defending world champion, Max Verstappen, explained the importance of the first free practice session. “I’m looking forward to racing in Imola this weekend,” revealed the Dutch driver. “It’s obviously the first sprint race of the season, so it’s important to gather as much information as possible from the first practice session, so that we can have a good understanding of the setups to be implemented for the race.”
Since the last Grand Prix, in Australia two weeks ago, the Austrian team had to rally its troops to find a solution to the failures experienced by Max Verstappen in Melbourne. If the causes have been identified, Red Bull’s special advisor Helmut Marko confirmed that the problem would be fixed before the next race.
As for the championship, Verstappen prefers to take it step by step to see the progress of the RB18. The teams on track and in Milton Keynes are working extremely hard, and with a bit of luck, we will have a calm weekend where we can score good points as a team. For now, we are progressing step by step and we’ll see where we end up, said Max Verstappen.
