Williams modified its livery in Australia to reduce the weight of the FW44

Most teams are struggling to manage the weight limit of 798 kilograms, imposed in addition to the new technical regulations. While some are still overweight, like Red Bull, Williams is making progress step by step thanks to the use of carbon fiber parts. Furthermore, Williams has chosen to remove certain painted areas around the side pods, which were previously painted in dark blue or glossy black.

The vehicle performance manager, Dave Robson, spoke about the difficulties encountered.

« You still want to lighten the car and I’m not sure how obvious it is, but the paint scheme is different, he explained. « I don’t know where we stand in terms of overweight in the pit lane, it’s really hard to know. But it’s a real challenge to be below the weight limit with these cars. It’s an area we will continue to work on. »

Furthermore, Dave Robson stated that Williams is getting closer to the car model that the team wants to achieve. As for the ride height and the porpoising of the FW44, the team is preparing to make some modifications but is still wary of the potential impact on the car’s floor.
