Carlos Sainz and Ferrari must be “perfect”
According to Carlos Sainz, his failure in Australia shows how perfect Ferrari and himself must be if they want to fight for victories.
The Australian Grand Prix 2022 is not one of the highlights of Carlos Sainz’s career. Already struggling in qualifying, he was unable to warm up his tires sufficiently and started the race in ninth position. Furthermore, a last-minute wheel change and a temperamental anti-stall system did not help him either.
After a poor start, the Spaniard was only able to complete two laps before ending up in the gravel trap and thus finished his Grand Prix in the worst possible way, completely opposite to his teammate who achieved his first Grand Slam in Australia.
For Sainz, this failure shows how perfect both the Scuderia and him must be if they want to participate in the battles for victories.
« Charles is a very skilled driver, » the Hispanic entrusted. « As he said, he understands the car very well and does excellent things with it. Of course, it is a great car, but I think he puts together very good races and very good performances. So I was really excited for qualifying and the race, just to see what progress I had made. But unfortunately, it didn’t happen […]. So now, the important thing is to learn from this mistake, » he continued.
« The important thing is just to come back and try to be more perfect, to pay closer attention to every detail because with the car we have this year, I think that for every race we don’t finish, we lose a huge amount of points that we could have won… We can only use this weekend as a source of motivation to learn as much as possible, and we have twenty perfect races ahead of us,” explained the Ferrari driver.
After these three first races, Ferrari is leading the constructor’s championship with 104 points on the board and a 39-point advantage over Mercedes.
