George Russell: Mercedes does not foresee any “significant” improvements in the immediate future

The pace of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell’s W13 is still significantly slower than that of Ferrari and Red Bull following the third Grand Prix of the season. Despite a few good opportunities for Mercedes and two podium finishes, the team still has a lot of ground to make up.

With the W13 still suffering from dolphin syndrome, rumors have circulated about major improvements planned by the German team. But these hopes were quickly shattered by Lewis Hamilton’s new teammate, George Russell, who expects only minor changes in the immediate future.

« Unfortunately, there is nothing significant in preparation right now. » laments the British. It won’t happen overnight. It will take us a number of races. I think there will be some small things, small improvements, but we know that our rivals will do the same, so these improvements may not be visible to the general public because Ferrari and Red Bull will also progress. ».

Mercedes’ team principal, Toto Wolff, explained that the team is still seeking to understand the functioning of the car and the tires, also lamenting the lack of progress and the potential held back by the W13.

However, George Russell remains confident in the team and sees great potential in these 2022 cars, while Lewis Hamilton is doing everything he can to mobilize his troops before the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
