Pierre Gasly “limits the damage” in Australia
Finishing in ninth place at the Albert Park circuit, AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly believes he managed to limit the damage for this third Grand Prix weekend.
The AT03 was definitely not the most powerful this weekend. During the qualifying session, the Frenchman Pierre Gasly failed to reach Q3 and highlighted the better performances of his midfield competitors. Nevertheless, he gathered two points at the end of this Grand Prix with his ninth place at the checkered flag.
If he is obviously satisfied with these few points, there is notable disappointment from the driver. The safety cars are largely responsible for the Normand’s mediocre result. Indeed, with a pit stop just before the first safety car, Gasly lost positions on the restart.
« For us, there have been quite a few twists and turns,” Pierre Gasly told Canal+ microphone. « I had a great start, a great first lap where I managed to gain two places, so we were quite happy. After that, it’s been two consecutive weekends where we stop at the pit and the Safety Car comes out two laps later and I find myself in fourteenth position. From there, it’s not ideal. We managed to fight to get those two points, but overall, I’m happy to leave with points because it was a challenging weekend,” he admitted.
Speaking of battle, Pierre Gasly refers to his duel with Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin, a duel that the Frenchman enjoyed. The two drivers were practically wheel to wheel, but Gasly ultimately managed to get ahead of the Canadian and secure his ninth place in Melbourne. Pierre Gasly “minimizes the damage,” as he stated on his Instagram account.
