Daniel Ricciardo: “results earlier than expected” for McLaren
The British team is not at its best form at the start of the season. However, both drivers scored points during the Australian Grand Prix, a massive result compared to the two previous races.
After two relatively difficult races for McLaren, the Australian Grand Prix is a breath of fresh air for the drivers. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, respectively in fifth and sixth place in the standings, both score points for the first time this season. For the Australian, these results come earlier than he would have thought.
« I think that’s probably the best way to sum up the weekend, expressed Ricciardo. « After Bahrain, I was still very positive and I knew we could bounce back. I didn’t think it would happen so soon, that’s why I fully accept it.
Daniel Ricciardo still admits to feeling more comfortable on medium tires on this brand new Australian track and encountering more difficulties on hard tires. “I found a certain rhythm after,” continued the driver, referring to his tire change. “But yes, the team’s result is enormous compared to the last ones.”
Furthermore, Daniel Ricciardo was able to benefit from the support of the Australian public as he raced at home for the first time since 2019. In total, nearly 130,000 spectators were gathered to attend this race.
