Lance Stroll questions the “strange decisions” of the race director in Melbourne
Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll has been penalized after his on-track battle with Valtteri Bottas, a decision that the Canadian finds difficult to understand.
During the Australian Grand Prix, Canadian driver Lance Stroll was penalized for making more than one change of direction in order to defend his position against Valtteri Bottas. After investigating this maneuver, the FIA opted for a five-second penalty and the deduction of one point from the driver’s super license. Even though it doesn’t alter his final ranking, Lance Stroll criticizes this decision.
“I don’t understand,” Stroll said. “It was just two drivers weaving all the time, it’s just the last move, really. You can weave on a straight line, as long as the car behind you isn’t too close. I do it to try and break the slipstream, not to defend myself, and they penalize me for it. I don’t understand. I think there are a lot of strange decisions right now,” the driver stated.
This is not Lance Stroll’s first penalty in Australia. Indeed, the driver has been given a three-place penalty due to his collision with Nicholas Latifi during the Australian qualifications. Although this did not change his position on the starting grid, he has also been awarded three points on his super license.
