The enthusiastic paddock about the arrival of Porsche and Audi in F1
On Thursday evening, Volkswagen Group gave the green light for the entry of Porsche and Audi into Formula 1, under certain conditions, news that appears to please the paddock.
The Volkswagen Group has announced its possible entry into Formula 1 with Audi and Porsche as power unit suppliers. If Christian Horner has shown his enthusiasm for a possible partnership with Porsche, he is not the only one to be excited about the news.
The flagship driver of the Austrian team Red Bull also expressed his excitement on Friday during a press conference in Melbourne. “I think it’s very exciting and very important for Formula 1. Of course, you know, we have ten excellent teams, but having other big brands behind us is really nice, to see this commitment. So I’m looking forward to seeing what the future will bring for the teams,” declared the world champion.
At the other stables, the same story. British driver Lewis Hamilton revealed that he is happy about the arrival of new manufacturers in this sport, even though he has known about it for a long time. At Alfa Romeo, Valtteri Bottas is looking forward to seeing more teams in Formula 1, just like Yuki Tsunoda who is excited to see more major companies by 2026.
However, these arrivals directly concern Red Bull and McLaren, as highlighted by Lando Norris.
« Yes, I think it’s mostly about us and Red Bull because they are the teams ready to get involved immediately. But to be honest, I don’t have much to say. It’s a question for Andreas [Seidl] and the team more than for me personally, but of course, if there are more manufacturers overall, it can only be good for Formula 1. » stated Lando Norris.
The current technical regulation regarding engines will be valid until 2026. The new regulation has not been unveiled yet, and the VAG group will not commit until it is published. Therefore, the arrival of the VAG group in F1 is still far from certain.
