Hamilton: “Nothing we change makes a difference”
So far, none of the changes that Mercedes is making actually improve the car according to Lewis Hamilton.
After a disappointing first day of testing for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton finished 13th in the second session, with a one and a half second gap behind Charles Leclerc. The Mercedes cars are still struggling with porpoising issues on the W13 and are still looking for a solution to minimize the loss of performance on the track.
The seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton expressed his disappointment with these results. It’s just that nothing we change on the car is making a difference for now, he deplored. That’s what makes things difficult.
« You are optimistic, so you make changes and you realize that it doesn’t seem to work. We made some modifications before the second session. The first one was better. The second one turned out to be tougher for me. So, I don’t know, the car is just tricky. » Lewis Hamilton revealed.
The Mercedes driver seems resigned and expects to have the same pace during the race this Sunday.
« We can’t do much. That’s just how it is. We just have to deal with it. That’s what’s frustrating: you try to push and catch up with the others and even with a decent lap, the gap is 1.2s. So it’s tough. » expressed the Brit.
On his teammate George Russell’s side, the speech is similar. Just slightly faster than Lewis Hamilton, Russell admitted to suffering from “porpoising” (dolphin syndrome) and not seeing any improvement, regardless of the settings.
