Red Bull does not exclude working with a new engine supplier in the future
According to Christian Horner, Red Bull could easily adapt to a new power unit supplier, which could possibly be Porsche.
The Volkswagen Group confirmed on Thursday evening its interest in a potential entry into Formula 1 by 2026. Its brands Audi and Porsche would benefit from the new engine regulations in that season.
For now, nothing is set in stone and Volkswagen remains on the sidelines until these regulations are officially announced. However, it is highly likely that Porsche will join the Austrian team Red Bull as a power unit supplier, given that Red Bull was left without a partner following Honda’s departure. Discussions between the two parties appear to be ongoing.
Red Bull has already created its own engine department to address this issue. The team principal of the team, Christian Horner, has spoken out. It’s excellent news for Formula 1 that these two brands are considering joining Formula 1. It’s natural for us to engage in discussions with them, he said, before explaining that it’s part of Red Bull’s plans to work with a new partner.
« It would be very easy, but we will of course have to choose the right partner. In this regard, it makes sense for us to initiate discussions with both partners, or with any serious engine manufacturer. For us, the power unit is an ongoing project, it is on schedule, and we are really thrilled with the talents we have been able to attract to this endeavor. » Horner continued.
Furthermore, Red Bull has expanded its Milton Keynes campus to install its engine department, which aims to be completely independent of the arrival of any partner. The first single-cylinder engine will start running imminently for the 2026 regulations, emphasized Christian Horner. We will move into these new premises at the end of May. As for recruitment, we have attracted some fantastic talent to the team. So yes, we are satisfied with the progress.
