April 6th: International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
On this special day for world sport, the International Automobile Federation is committed to defending the values of sport.
Today, Wednesday, April 6, 2022, major sports entities such as the National Olympic Committee are coming together to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. In a statement, the FIA has expressed its commitment.
« In a world filled with geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts, April 6th offers the opportunity to demonstrate that sports are a source of stability, education, and integration, and can contribute to the construction of peaceful and inclusive societies, states the statement.
More than ever, faced with the crisis in Ukraine, the FIA is grateful for the efforts made by the motor sports community and fans who are providing support to those affected independently. The FIA has established a Humanitarian Force to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian responses from its community. As part of the initiative, a contribution of one million euros from the FIA and its foundation is being made for further humanitarian actions to alleviate the suffering of people.
Many FIA member organizations in sports and mobility – particularly in Region I, Europe – have also mobilized to provide support and assistance to the Ukrainian people in these difficult times. Furthermore, the FIA is increasingly committed to promoting positive change in motorsports, including the promotion of equality, diversity, inclusion, and empowerment of young people. Today, the FIA is joining the digital campaign #WhiteCard created by Peace and Sport, which brings together millions of people every year on social media.
By doing so, the FIA once again displays its unwavering support for Ukraine and calls on its members to sign the document promoting peace and unity through sport.
