Verstappen: The Australian Grand Prix “is going to be interesting”
Recently crowned winner of the Jeddah Grand Prix in front of his Ferrari rival Charles Leclerc, Dutchman Max Verstappen is eager to test the new features of the Australian circuit.
For the third round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the drivers will meet in Australia, for the first time since 2019. Due to the pandemic, the measures taken by the country did not allow the Grand Prix to take place, which was previously the season opener.
Meanwhile, the circuit has undergone a whole bunch of modifications, including the widening of numerous corners, which should promote overtaking in several places and allow for an increase in speed. Red Bull driver and defending world champion Max Verstappen has expressed his excitement about seeing the impact these new changes will have.
“I am really looking forward to racing in Australia again,” admitted the pilot. “The atmosphere there is always so good. It’s going to be interesting to see the track improvements, I think it will make a big difference, especially in turn six where the most significant change has been made. There should be a lot more overtaking opportunities now, which is always positive,” he continued.
Max Verstappen is also looking forward to seeing the behavior of the RB18, especially after his recent battle with Charles Leclerc on the track. It will be interesting to see how the car performs in Australia, as the track can be dusty at times. I hope we can have as enjoyable a weekend as the last one for the team, so we’ll see what happens on Sunday, Verstappen expressed.
