Nico Hülkenberg: “I miss racing”

German driver Nico Hülkenberg returned to Aston Martin for the first two races of the 2022 season, replacing his compatriot Sebastian Vettel, who tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Despite a year-long absence, Hülkenberg proved to be faster than Lance Stroll, his temporary teammate, and managed to cross the finish line without any issues in both races. But all good things must come to an end. Sebastian Vettel will be back for the Argentine Grand Prix this weekend, so Hülkenberg will resume his role as the reserve driver at Aston Martin.

Thanks to his two participations, the German driver had the opportunity to test the 2022 cars, which sparked his curiosity. It is one of the reasons why Hülkenberg hopes to return to F1.

« Of course I miss racing. » admitted the German. « Some days more than others. And obviously, what is happening now, with the Coronavirus, has already happened in 2020. So who knows what could happen this year. ».

« But I think it’s going to be tricky and difficult to secure a spot in the future. But if there is one, give me a call. » Hülkenberg revealed.

The experience that the driver gained from these two races could give him a significant advantage in the eyes of Aston Martin, even though there is still work to be done by the team as they are one of only two teams, along with Williams, who haven’t scored any points. “We still have work to do. We need to develop the car in many areas,” Hülkenberg revealed. “It’s just one thing when you lack rhythm. But you know, it’s good in the sense that I could do these two races for the team, to collect data and information. So they can move forward,” the German concluded.
