Marc Gené: “Charles Leclerc is in a different state of mind”
This season, Ferrari seems to have the cards in hand to compete for the championship. If the last two years have been catastrophic for the Scuderia, the new regulations have been beneficial.
The 2022 regulations seem beneficial for the Scuderia Ferrari so far, just like for Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver was not able to fight for victory in the past two seasons. According to Marc Gené, Ferrari’s test driver, Charles Leclerc has greatly developed during this period.
« He was someone very emotional and this year, he has changed a lot. Charles is like a 2.0 version of himself, explains Gené. « When I went to Barcelona for the private tests, we spent a lot of time together and he had completely changed his mindset and mentality, it’s visible, ».
For Marc Gené, this change is visible in the driver’s behavior as well as in his driving on the track. From the opening race in Bahrain, the Monegasque secured the victory and the fastest time. « I expected Charles to be over the moon after qualifying, pole position, and the race, but he was much more mature and aware of the longevity of the championship. ».
