An accident at 1 million for Mick Schumacher

Last Saturday, Mick Schumacher was fighting for a spot in Q3 when he lost control of the VF-22. Exiting turn 10, the car skidded on the rumble strips before crashing into the wall. The German driver was taken to the hospital for necessary checks. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed, unlike the Haas’ VF-22.

The team principal of the racing team, Günther Steiner, has explained which parts were affected during the impact and the likely cost of repairs.

« The chassis itself doesn’t seem to be broken, revealed Steiner. « The infrastructures on the side are, but you can change them. Obviously, we need to do a complete check of the chassis, but honestly, it doesn’t look that bad. As for the engine, Ferrari told me it’s okay. The battery too. But everything else is destroyed! The Italian confided.

« I think the cost is quite high because the suspensions are gone, except for the front left. I think something is still here. », he continued. « The rest is just carbon powder. Financially speaking, between the gearbox, the entire bodywork, and the radiators, we must be between five hundred thousand and one million dollars. ».

« There is a nominal amount, but in a racing team, you can never rely on a specific budget like in a normal business because you have this risk,” explained Günther Steiner. « You obviously have a budget for unforeseen events. But with two or three [accidents] like this one, this budget is quickly spent. It’s a loss. We just have to manage it. Of course, I hope there won’t be many more in the future. ».
