Ferrari demands strict budget control for 2022

With all the new regulations in effect this season, the teams have encountered a major challenge. In order to implement all of these new changes, the teams’ budget has been set at 140 million dollars. As a result, not all teams were able to implement all of the desired improvements.

The Scuderia Ferrari is worried about this budget cap. Throughout the season, teams will seek to develop their cars to the maximum. But with such a financial limit, Ferrari fears that teams might find a way to exploit these rules to inflate their budget.

The team principal of Ferrari, Mattia Binotto, explained his concerns.

« This will influence the development rate. » Mattia Binotto entrusted about the budget cap. « I think this is a key element and I am concerned because we must make sure we have the right policy on this because it can change the game in the fight for development. », he revealed.

More advanced strategies

For Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, teams will have to be much more strategic and selective in their choices.

“I think that every team, or almost every team, is close to the limit this year,” said Horner. “It’s very aggressive, so you have to be very strategic in your allocation of funds for development. Instead of just spending as much as possible and seeking maximum performance from the car, you have to be much more selective in what you choose based on costs. So that it is efficient.”
