Verstappen places little value on Hamilton’s recent statements
Following the example of Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen questions the honesty of Lewis Hamilton's recent statements regarding the actual development of Mercedes.
This morning, Carlos Sainz mentioned the typical attitude of Mercedes, explaining that the team had the habit of putting others forward during the tests in order to crush them in the first Grand Prix. Clearly, his opinion is shared by others.
For Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton’s recent statements have little value. They do that all the time, deplores the world champion. If a team performs well during testing, they say “oh, we are not favorites.” And when things go well for them, you hear “we have performed very well this week, everyone has worked very hard at the factory…”. But last year, Mercedes was extremely strong in the end.
As for the RB18, it doesn’t seem to have encountered any serious issues during testing. Red Bull must now do everything possible to develop certain parts of the car.
« Of course, we are working on it,” explains Verstappen. « I think that this season, the important thing is not necessarily to see how we will perform in the first three races, but the development phase after that. Anyway, everything is new so you have a lot to learn from the car. We just need to make sure that we go faster during the season and that we find what we need in the car,” he confides.
