Official: Kevin Magnussen replaces Nikita Mazepin at Haas
It's official, the Haas team has chosen the replacement for Nikita Mazepin for the 2022 season. And the lucky one is none other than Kevin Magnussen.
He was on the list of Haas’ team principal, Güenther Steiner. Danish driver Kevin Magnussen replaces Nikita Mazepin as the lead driver for the upcoming season.
Romain Grosjean’s former teammate left Formula 1 in 2020. After a season away from the paddock, he is now rejoining his former team, this time alongside Mick Schumacher.
Magnussen, among other things, joined the American IMSA championship with Chip Ganassi Racing. As an endurance driver last season, he is now making his big comeback in the premier category of motorsports. The Danish driver has started 116 Formula 1 races, which is why the American Haas team has chosen to bring back their driver. A multi-year contract has also been mentioned.
“I was really surprised but very happy to receive the call from Haas,” admits Magnussen. “I had other plans for the 2022 season, but the opportunity to return to compete in F1 and with a team that I know very well was simply too tempting,” the driver admits.
Magnussen also thanks Chip Ganassi Racing for letting him go. Naturally, I also want to thank Gene Haas and Günther Steiner for the opportunity to resume my Formula 1 career. I know how competitive and motivated they are to return to competition every time. We had a strong relationship and a great partnership even when I left at the end of 2020. » reveals Kevin Magnussen.
« I have been briefed as much as possible on the development of the VF-22 and its potential, says the Dane. « There is work to be done, but I am happy to be part of it. I am looking forward to being back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in Bahrain, concludes Mick Schumacher’s new teammate.
