Max Verstappen signs a contract with Red Bull until 2028!

The team principal of Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner, described this contract as a real statement of intent. The Dutch driver already had a contract covering the 2022 and 2023 seasons after the extension announcement in 2020.

The total duration of seven years is the longest ever signed for a contract within the same team in the entire history of Formula 1. After winning the championship in 2021, Max Verstappen had joked about wanting to stay with this team for the next 10 or 15 years, and Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko confirmed shortly after that this extension was being considered.

Even though Red Bull has lost its biggest supporter, Honda, the team has recently concluded other important agreements, including a sponsorship from Oracle in addition to a contract with the cryptocurrency platform Bybit worth 150 million dollars.

These new agreements, coupled with the budget reductions imposed by the FIA, have given Red Bull all the cards to do whatever they wanted financially and therefore, to keep their star driver no matter the cost.

An easy decision for Verstappen.

« I really enjoy being part of the Oracle Red Bull Team,” Max Verstappen revealed. « So for me, choosing to stay until 2028 was a very easy decision. I love this team, and last year was simply incredible. Our goal since we started together in 2016 was to win the championship, and we did it. So now, the aim is to keep the number one on the car for as long as possible. »

Furthermore, this new contract covers the upcoming engine regulation change scheduled for 2026. At the same time, Red Bull is said to be in talks with Volkswagen as a potential engine supplier and now has a strong advantage. The team is also in discussions with other manufacturers for the development of a bespoke Red Bull engine.

Moreover, this contract extension for Max Verstappen goes hand in hand with that of Christian Horner, who has been confirmed in his role as team principal until 2026.
