McLaren: Alonso has complete confidence in Renault
A new chapter opens for McLaren in Formula 1 with its partnership with the French engine manufacturer Renault. A new era that could lead to quite a lot of success according to Fernando Alonso.
Renault driver for many years and twice crowned at the wheel of the French team’s single-seaters, Fernando Alonso knows the Viry-Châtillon-based manufacturer perfectly.
Returned to McLaren in 2015 and frustrated by the failure with Honda, the Spaniard is delighted with the new partnership between his team and the French engine manufacturer. He is even hopeful about this new beginning: « I believe that there are now three engine manufacturers at a very high level, and among the three, Mercedes has dominated in recent years. But if you have to trust someone, you trust Renault, which, over the last 10 or 12 years, has won 6 or 7 times. Renault brings assurances at the engine level, as they always have. »
Alonso’s ambition for 2018 is none other than victory. The double world champion has already waited too long to be patient again: “I said I was going to win this year and I will do it!” he declares with his legendary confidence.
If the new single-seater will only be presented on February 23rd, Alonso already knows that the atmosphere is once again very good within his team and that confidence has been restored: « What is really certain is that expectations are much better than those of the last three winters. The atmosphere in the factory is much more positive. »
