Kubica has “many more limitations” in his daily life than behind the wheel of an F1
In contention to secure a full-time seat with the Williams team in 2018, Robert Kubica claims he is 90% the same driver he was before his rally accident in 2011.
During the final laps of the 2017 cars, Robert Kubica carried out a final test with Williams on the Abu Dhabi track to reassure his potential future employer about his ability to drive a Formula 1 car.
For the Pole, this assertion is beyond doubt, and he believes he is in full possession of his abilities to become the top-level driver he was before his accident six years ago: « Honestly, I have much more limitations in my everyday life. Driving in Formula 1 is not the same as it used to be. My limitations are less significant than they appear. 90% of my driving is exactly the same as before. »
Many observers, however, have doubts about his ability to drive with only one fully functional arm, which the former Renault driver refutes: “I am in better condition than in the past. But now, I have to work even harder, age doesn’t help,” says the 32-year-old driver.
The biggest difference is made in the mind. It’s incredible to see the brain’s potential and how quickly it adapts to situations. Unfortunately, I was forced to interrupt my career due to serious injuries. I’ve learned to live with it and to drive a Formula 1 car accordingly, and I must say that in the end, I’m quite surprised by the result, concludes Kubica.
