Robert Kubica in the Renault for private testing in Hungary
Robert Kubica and Nicholas Latifi will participate in the private tests for the Renault team, which will take place after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Polish driver Robert Kubica is getting closer to a return to competition in Formula 1. After conducting tests on older Renault team cars, the former BMW driver, who was seriously injured during a rally in 2011, will make his debut in a 2017 car during private tests organized after the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.
Renault has never hidden its desire to see the Polish driver back in a Formula 1 car. Before his accident, the Krakow native had participated in 19 Grand Prix with the French team, securing three podiums and a fastest lap in a race.
For his part, Kubica has made his return to Formula 1 his main objective for several weeks, especially since his successful tests for his comeback in single-seaters: « This will require training and preparation, but I now know that I can become the driver I once was. And without wanting to be arrogant, I can say that I had a very good level in 2010. » he notably declared after two successful tests at the wheel of a 2012 Lotus-Renault E20 in Valencia and Paul Ricard.
Canadian Nicholas Lafiti will also take part in the tests and will drive the RS17 on Tuesday, August 1, before handing over to Kubica the following day.
