Pascal Wehrlein fit to race in Canada
Sauber driver Pascal Wehrlein, the victim of a spectacular collision with Jenson Button in Monaco, has passed all the medical tests necessary to be declared fit to race at the next Grand Prix in Canada.
The image will remain as one of the most striking of the year: Pascal Wehrlein’s Sauber flipped on its side, against the safety barriers at the entrance of the tunnel on the Monaco circuit after a collision with Jenson Button’s McLaren towards the end of the race.
The Swiss team’s driver had already missed the first two races of the season due to an accident at the Race of Champions earlier in the year, which had caused him vertebra injuries. He was replaced by the Italian Antonio Giovinazzi.
But this time, even though the German’s helmet touched the safety barriers, this accident will not prevent him from taking part in the rest of the season, including the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, with its first free practice sessions starting on June 9. Good news for the Sauber team and its driver, who is currently the only one to have scored the team’s 4 points in the championship.
