Alonso wants to win in 2018, at McLaren or elsewhere

True to his contract with McLaren, which expires at the end of the year, Fernando Alonso isn't stopping himself from looking elsewhere for next season. One thing is certain: he wants to win in 2018, with the British team or elsewhere.

Alonso wants to win in 2018, at McLaren or elsewhere

During a press conference this afternoon, on the sidelines of the Spanish Grand Prix, with the first free practice sessions set to begin tomorrow, Fernando Alonso inevitably had to face questions about his future in Formula 1.

He, who will miss the Monaco Grand Prix in fifteen days to try his luck at the Indianapolis 500, confirms his attachment to Formula 1, especially since the overhaul of the technical regulations this year: « I love these Formula 1 cars. My priority is to continue racing in this discipline. »

But the double world champion has been deprived of victory for too long to wait another year without celebrating. He wants to win and makes it known without mincing words: “I am happy with the team, but we are not winning. If by September or October we have the certainty that we can win in 2018, then I would be the happiest to continue with the team. If that is not the case, I would then be very happy to talk with everyone.”

The Spaniard will begin his reflection this summer, after running the Indianapolis 500 Miles, which seems to occupy his mind more than his home Grand Prix: « Around this summer, I will think about what I want to do next year but currently, it’s not a favorable time for reflection with the 500 Miles approaching… it’s difficult to think about anything else. » admits Alonso with a smile.
