Hamilton: Ferrari is faster than Mercedes
For three-time British world champion Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari will be the team to beat at this inaugural round of the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship in Australia. But Sebastian Vettel prefers to keep his feet on the ground and continues to point to Mercedes as the favorites.
The first press meeting took place this morning in Melbourne, on the sidelines of the Australian Grand Prix which will kick off the 2017 Formula 1 season.
Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, two of the designated favorites for the victory, were of course present at this first conference. And it can already be said that the two men are wary of each other.
For the triple British world champion, Ferrari will be the team to beat this weekend: I think Ferrari is faster at the moment. They will truly be the favorites. But we will have confirmation of that this weekend. It’s interesting to see Sebastian [Vettel] highly motivated, and I can tell you he’s trying to hold himself back.
To which the four-time German world champion replies: « Mercedes has been in great shape for three years. When the regulations change, I think a team that was good before remains good, regardless of the regulation. Mercedes is the favorite. »
A deceitful game that should not remain so for long, with the reality of the stopwatch inevitably revealing all the contenders’ cards for victory from the first free practice session scheduled for the night from Thursday to Friday in European time.
