A positive day for Renault
Despite a few technical problems and a learning curve for Jolyon Palmer, the Renault cars put in a rather satisfactory performance on Friday, which gives cause for optimism ahead of Sunday's race.
After the good results of the recent Grand Prix races, the Renault team approaches this race in Austin with an optimism that has been rather rare this season.
If Kevin Magnussen was delayed by electrical problems on his car, his weekend goal remains to score points on Sunday: “I think we have the potential to progress in the hierarchy, which means we should be fighting for points in the race. That’s what we all want.”
Comments shared by Bob Bell, the technical director of the French team: « We have enough data to work with for the qualifications, during which we hope to climb a new step. »
But beyond the performances, it is above all the pleasure of driving on the COTA in Austin that delighted both drivers, especially Jolyon Palmer: « My first impressions of the Circuit of the Americas are simple: this track is awesome! I had a few close calls while pushing the limits and we have work to do to improve our settings. »
A similar feeling that seems very strong in Magnussen as well: “It’s still just as fantastic to drive on the Circuit of the Americas,” the Dane shared on Friday evening.
