Slightly injured Hamilton withdraws from Pirelli tests in Barcelona
Initially scheduled to take over from Nico Rosberg for today's Pirelli tests in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton had to withdraw from the race with a slight foot injury.
Pirelli had planned to conduct two days of testing at the Barcelona circuit with Mercedes’ regular drivers to continue the development of the new 2017 version tires.
Yesterday, it was the winner of the Japanese Grand Prix and current leader of the World Drivers’ Championship, Nico Rosberg, who was on track to carry out this program.
He should have been replaced by Lewis Hamilton today, but the British driver announced that he had to withdraw from participating due to a minor foot injury: “Lewis has a slight foot problem following his training on Tuesday. We agreed that he would not take part in the tests in order to have some physio sessions to be fully ready for Austin, which will be the case,” a Mercedes spokesperson said.
This new incident, in a difficult season for Hamilton, does not seem to put the driver in the best position in his fight for the world title against his teammate Nico Rosberg, who now has a 33-point lead in the standings.
