Last in the championship with zero points, the Sauber team will have to rely on luck if it hopes to open its score by the end of the year, as confirmed by its driver, Felipe Nasr.

Sauber relies on luck to score points

While Sauber’s situation seems to have been resolved and improved behind the scenes by securing its future and funding, its position on the track and in the world championship remains concerning.

With five Grand Prix races remaining in the championship, neither Felipe Nasr nor Marcus Ericsson have managed to break into the Top 10 to score even a single point. This situation is unlikely to change without a little stroke of luck, as the Brazilian driver confirms: « We just need a little bit of luck, or for a safety car to work in our favor. Right now, things are aligning from an external standpoint, and we can reach the points by continuing on this path. But today, we do not have the pace to score points. »

Some minor developments are expected for the next race in Suzuka: « We expect some minor developments for Japan and we’ll see where it leads us, » says the Brazilian.

In Malaysia, the team experienced difficult moments with a disastrous start for both drivers and mechanical issues during the race: « I had a terrible start. Yet the formation lap went well. There was a problem with the clutch, just like for Marcus. If you look at the footage, we got off to a good start and then we were stuck there, unable to move the next 100 meters. And then unfortunately, we had to retire. We had a problem with the brake-by-wire,” Nasr described, a bit disheartened, to our colleagues at Autosport after the race.
