Toro Rosso counts on Kvyat in 2017

Demoted from Red Bull to Toro Rosso at the start of the season, Daniil Kvyat has been a shadow of his former self ever since. Despite this, Franz Tost, the Italian team's sporting director, is still counting on the Russian for the future and believes in his ability to bounce back.

Toro Rosso counts on Kvyat in 2017

Daniil Kvyat’s season is certainly not what the Russian dreamed of. After starting the year with Red Bull, he was sent back to Toro Rosso starting from the Spanish Grand Prix to make way for Max Verstappen, who quickly became victorious in Barcelona.

Enough to unsettle even the strongest of drivers, and Daniil Kvyat has thus struggled to recover from this affront since his return to Faenza. Yet, Toro Rosso’s sporting director, Franz Tost, still believes in him: « Personally, I hope he will continue to race for us because, sooner or later, he will demonstrate his real potential and regain his speed, » said the Austrian manager, who is usually stingy with compliments.

Tost and Toro Rosso are therefore counting on Kvyat to support Carlos Sainz in 2017. Even if it seems unlikely that the Russian could ever get a seat at Red Bull again: « I can understand his lack of confidence because it was a big change to move from Red Bull back to Toro Rosso. But on the other hand, Red Bull, which is the only team in Formula 1 with two stables, gave him the opportunity to stay in Formula 1 and continue racing, and he must see this positively. He just needs a good result for his confidence to return. »

« We all know that Daniil can do a good job. He was the GP3 champion and won several races in that discipline. He was on the podium in China this year. He can’t have lost his abilities in just a few months ». concluded Tost.
