Button takes big points for McLaren in Austria
Starting on the second row, Jenson Button finished the race in 6th position after a difficult race. This was Button's best result of the season, while his team-mate Fernando Alonso was forced to retire.
Jenson Button was satisfied with his race as he exited his single-seater. Ranked 6th after a challenging race driving a McLaren struggling on the straights, the Briton was quite happy with his result: « I knew the race was going to be tough. Starting from the top of the grid helped us because we were able to move forward in clean air and do things a bit more the way we wanted. But with two DRS zones, we couldn’t keep the other cars behind us for long. »
The 6th place is therefore a good result for Button and McLaren, who could hardly aim for better this Sunday: « We did a good job this weekend. We beat the Williams in terms of pace and did a good job with our strategy. We got the maximum out of it. »
A feeling counterbalanced by the disappointment of Fernando Alonso, who had to abandon the race to end a frustrating and disappointing weekend for the Spaniard: « We were not lucky this weekend. It was a pretty tough race for me. The engine wasn’t working properly from the 3rd or 4th lap. I lost power due to an issue with the batteries, so we were on the verge of retiring throughout the race. »
