Sergio Pérez takes the front row in Baku
Although he will be penalized 5 places on the grid on Sunday, Sergio Pérez is the driver who set the 2nd fastest time in qualifying for the European Grand Prix. He will therefore start from 7th place tomorrow.
Unlucky at the end of FP3, Sergio Pérez will therefore be penalized on the starting grid of the European Grand Prix in Baku tomorrow.
This afternoon, the Force India driver delivered the best performance of his Formula 1 career by securing the 2nd fastest time in a hectic session. An achievement felt as such by the 3rd place finisher of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix: « To be honest, I feel like it’s a pole. It’s already an incredible job by my mechanics to make it to qualifying. But it’s a mix of emotions… I’m happy, I did a very solid lap because there wasn’t much time left after Lewis’s accident. I hope we can make progress tomorrow because the team deserves better than 7th place. I want to do something very strong tomorrow. »
The astonishment gives way to satisfaction for Pérez, who eagerly awaits the race tomorrow: « We knew we would be good but not to this extent. Finishing 2nd on a track where it’s so easy to make mistakes is really great. I look forward to the race. »
