Future developments for Sauber
In dire financial straits, the Sauber team should nonetheless be able to update its single-seater for the coming Grand Prix.
Unpaid invoices and staff, a glaring lack of financial support and sponsorship… the daily life of the Sauber team is marked by these difficulties.
To such an extent that since the beginning of the season, the C35s have not undergone any development and have never managed to break into the Top 10 in races. But according to Marcus Ericsson, new parts should be fitted to the cars within three Grand Prix: “Within two or three races, upgrades will be there if everything works as we hope,” the Swede told Autosport.
New rear and front wings should therefore equip the cars of Nasr and Ericsson, which would be a first step in the development of the single-seater: « This will be welcome. Not only because we need it, but also because it will motivate everyone. The energy that comes from having developments on the car is what we all need in the team, and I really look forward to it. » adds the Swede.
Of course, these developments won’t work miracles, and Marcus Ericsson is well aware: « We never know what it might bring, even if it looks good at the factory. It won’t change the world but I still hope it will bring us closer to the points. In Canada, we were quite close to the Haas, which is encouraging considering we’re using a car that hasn’t evolved since the start of the year. It’s still positive. »
