Max Verstappen: “These last 10 laps have been the hardest of my life&”;
Max Verstappen, who finished 4th in the Canadian Grand Prix, had his work cut out in the closing laps of the race, fending off the onslaught of a very aggressive Nico Rosberg. The Dutchman emerged victorious from this duel.
Even if Red Bull wanted to leave Montreal with a podium, the 4th place achieved by Max Verstappen on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit provided great satisfaction to the main person concerned.
The Dutchman, frustrated to see the podium slip away, remains happy with his race: « We did everything we could, and it was good work. We wanted to finish on the podium, ahead of the Williams, but quickly, we realized we were suffering a bit too much from tire degradation. I think a little rain would have helped us. At the beginning of the race, I managed to save my tires and fuel, then when Daniel [Ricciardo] got closer, I decided it was time to attack. »
The end of the race was a bit more eventful for the Red Bull driver who had to fend off a constant attack from Nico Rosberg. The Mercedes driver almost snatched 4th place from Verstappen, but his last attempt resulted in a spin at the final chicane: “During the last 10 laps, I really enjoyed myself. But I must say these last 10 laps were the hardest of my life. I’d been in 4th for a long time and I definitely didn’t want to give up that place! It was a really tough fight at the end. Nico’s [Rosberg] pace was very good but I managed to stay ahead and the last 10 laps were really spectacular.”
Max Verstappen is now in 6th place in the World Drivers’ Championship standings with a total of 50 points. His teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, is 4th with 72 points.
