Satisfaction at Red Bull after successful qualifying
Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are satisfied with their positions on the grid and hope to have an attacking race to grab a podium finish on Sunday evening. Red Bull did not expect to be so high up on the grid, however, and remains satisfied with the performance of its drivers.
After a rather frustrating Monaco Grand Prix for the team, Red Bull must achieve a good result in Montreal. The qualifications went well for Daniel Ricciardo, 4th, and Max Verstappen, 5th, which is enough to excite Christian Horner, the sporting director of the Austrian team: « It was an exciting qualification. And the close grouping of our drivers at the 4th and 5th places is certainly above our expectations. An excellent last lap by Daniel, placing him just 3 and a half tenths off Hamilton’s pole position, which is a great achievement for him. Starting from these positions with uncertain weather will surely make the race very exciting. »
Daniel Ricciardo came close to disaster on his last lap by touching the “Wall of Champions” but ultimately finished well with an excellent 4th place: « I’m quite happy. We worked well to finally find a good pace in qualifying, which is always the most important session. I was quite lucky on my last lap at the final chicane, I hit the wall quite hard but I was able to cross the line without losing too much time. »
For the race, the Australian, unlucky in Monaco, maintains fairly high ambitions: « The start will be important, but you can overtake here. We now have good top speed on the straights and are therefore in positions to overtake. Having the right tires at the right time will remain crucial. »
Max Verstappen will start just behind his teammate and also hopes to have an attacking race: « Our race pace seems good and we can score points. But of course, we never know because of the weather. It seems difficult to beat the Mercedes and the Ferraris look fast here, but with these changing weather conditions, it could help us. »
