A frustrating first day for Romain Grosjean
A difficult first day punctuated the start of the weekend for Romain Grosjean. The Frenchman, who hit the rail in FP2, is nevertheless confident and remains hopeful for Saturday's qualifying sessions.
If his first free practice session went smoothly, Romain Grosjean hit the barrier this afternoon during FP2. Struggling for a few races with his Haas, the Frenchman is having trouble finding the right balance with his car.
This is truly a challenge on the streets of Monaco, where the slightest error can be fatal: “It’s quite complicated to find the right balance with the car. We’re in Monaco, we know that the cars are going faster and faster, so mistakes are easier to make. But it’s true that we’re having a bit of trouble getting the tires warmed up,” he admits once back in front of his motorhome.
However, Romain Grosjean remains confident and prefers to look ahead, especially towards qualifying, particularly as he seems to have found ways to improve his car’s performance: “We have some work ideas to make the car suit us a little better, and from there I hope to push even harder in qualifying.”
When asked about the tribute he paid to Jules Bianchi through his helmet, the Haas driver emphasized the importance of remembering the young French driver in the Formula 1 paddocks, especially in Monaco: « I’ve always said it, I want Jules to stay with us, and he has his place in the paddock. If I could, I would have raced with the full version of Jules’s helmet, but regulations prevent us from doing so. So I made sure he was with us as much as possible. »
