Major engine changes for Renault after the Spanish GP
Renault has announced a major upgrade to its power unit for the next two days of private testing at the Barcelona circuit, following the Spanish Grand Prix. Other areas, notably aerodynamics, are also expected to undergo changes.
The Renault team will test a new version of its power unit during the upcoming private tests scheduled in Barcelona on May 17 and 18, after the Spanish Grand Prix.
Nick Chester also confirms that other developments will be introduced on the RS16: « For these private tests, we have a batch of new things to test: a new suspension, new aerodynamic developments in various areas of the car, some cooling solutions, and the evaluation of the version B power unit. We should therefore have two very full days. »
Renault does not want to wait until 2017 to push its development and intends to use this season to try new elements and, why not, achieve some convincing results. This is at least what Cyril Abiteboul, the director of the French team, suggests: « Barcelona is the start of our development program, and we will see new things coming during the race, with several others planned for the tests that will follow. We look at this race as a marker […] We are proceeding with small steps, but I am convinced that we will gain momentum. »
