Hamilton: “I was flowing without error, from corner to corner”
Hamilton signed the first pole position of the year, without apparent difficulty. He leads his teammate, Nico Rosberg, and the two Ferrari drivers.
The doubt is lifted during this first qualification of the year, in Melbourne, at the Australian Grand Prix. While the new qualifying system will generate a lot of discussion, the dominance of Mercedes, and Lewis Hamilton in particular, is indisputable.
The Briton, three-time world champion, seemed to fly on the circuit, an impression he confirmed himself in the press conference after the session: « I must again take my hat off to the team for setting the bar even higher. I love driving this single-seater. It feels good, I was flowing from turn to turn without mistakes. It’s what you can dream of as a driver. »
Remarks that may hurt Nico Rosberg even more than the three-tenths conceded by the German during the qualifying. Especially since Hamilton is determined to win the race tomorrow: « There is still a lot of work to do. The radio bans will hinder us tomorrow, and we’ll have to anticipate what’s going to happen without having any information on the strategy. I hope to put on a great show for the public tomorrow. »
A show that started right after the qualification as Hamilton joined the press room sitting on the edge of the safety car door, greeting an enthusiastic audience!
